This free program is offered as part of the WVU College of Creative Arts and Media’s biennial First Amendment and Free Speech program. This workshop recognizes that digital security is necessary to exercise freedom of expression and protect a free press in a digital landscape.
Join us for a 3-hour hands-on security training workshop designed for local and regional news organizations, independent and citizen journalists, and other at-risk practitioners in the fields of communications, education, the arts, and civil society organizations. This training is designed to hone your digital security skills, conduct a personal or organizational threat assessment, and strengthen your digital resilience and other skills for safe and ethical best practices online and in the field.
Participants will be able to manage security risks and settings across devices, platforms, and media types, learn new tools and proactive steps to mitigate risks and improve the security of your devices, platforms, and data, and track your Internet connection and identity. These practices can help organizations and independent practitioners prepare for, respond to, and recover from threats to themselves or their employees when they are doing sensitive work.
