Position Type: Full-time Contract
Contract Duration: 8 months
Location: Mafa Local Government Area, Borno State
Working Conditions: On-site with extensive travel to project sites.

General Description and Job Description
The Gender and Protection Assistant supports DHCBI’s efforts to integrate the principles of gender equality and protection into all project activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all beneficiaries. The role includes actively engaging with community members, conducting awareness-raising sessions, supporting safeguarding initiatives and maintaining robust mechanisms to prevent and address exploitation and abuse.
The Assistant will work closely with the Project Manager/Gender Protection Officer to ensure the effective implementation of gender-sensitive and protection strategies, particularly in the context of the Malakyariri Early Recovery Project.

Responsibilities
Program Implementation
Help integrate gender equality and protection principles into all project activities. Facilitate gender awareness and advocacy sessions for community members and project stakeholders. Support the creation of safe spaces for women, children, and vulnerable groups in the community. Conduct advocacy assessments to identify risks and recommend mitigation measures. Community Engagement
Work with community leaders, women’s groups, and other stakeholders to promote gender-sensitive and protection-focused programming. Encourage community participation in advocacy initiatives, ensuring inclusive representation of women, youth and marginalized groups. Monitoring and Data Collection
Collect and document data on gender equality indicators and protection outcomes during field activities. Maintain accurate records of gender and protection interventions, including beneficiary comments and incident reports. Reporting and Documentation
Provide regular updates to the Project Manager on gender and advocacy activities, challenges and successes. Document and share lessons learned to inform future programming. Training and Capacity Building
Assist in training staff and community members on the prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and gender equality principles. Support the development of IEC materials on gender and advocacy for community awareness. Grievance and feedback management
Assist in establishing and maintaining secure and confidential feedback and reporting mechanisms for beneficiaries. Respond promptly to gender and protection concerns raised by beneficiaries and escalate outstanding issues to the project manager.

Requirements
Candidate must be an indigene of Mafa LGA
Education:
Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Work, Community Development or a related field. Experience:
At least 3 years of experience in gender and protection programming, preferably in humanitarian contexts. SKILLS:
Strong understanding of gender and advocacy principles, including PSEA. Excellent communication skills and community engagement. Ability to collect and analyze data related to gender and protection. Proficient in MS Office tools for reporting and documentation. Additional Requirements:
Ability to work in the field in remote locations and difficult conditions. Fluency in Hausa and/or Kanuri is an advantage.
