Power and Climate Initiative

There is an urgent need to expand access to energy in Africa.
Access to reliable, affordable and sustainable energy is essential to drive economic growth and unlock development across the continent.
However, around 600 million people in sub-Saharan Africa live without access to electricity, or nearly 83% of the world’s unelectrified population.
This is unfair and counterproductive, not only to the lives and livelihoods of individuals, but also to the prosperity and stability of communities and entire countries. Mission 300 is an ambitious effort by the World Bank Group and the African Development Bank, with support from partners such as the Rockefeller Foundation, to connect 300 million people to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa by 2030. Mission 300 will accelerate the pace of electrification in sub-Saharan Africa by ensuring that the transition to more diverse and cleaner energy sources meets growing demand, drives economic growth, and creates jobs.
