Job Title: Protection and Gender Officer

Objective / Purpose
The Gender and Protection Officer will be responsible for supporting and implementing minimum protection integration measures as outlined in the Humanitarian Principles, the SPHERE Standards and other protection policies and guidelines. He/she will support the creation and management of complaints and feedback offices. This role will support MACI operations in promoting and building a “safe organization” and maintaining zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) of beneficiaries through beneficiary awareness focused on prevention of sexual harassment and abuse (PSEA) by staff and representatives. , as well as to facilitate the confidential reporting of protection, conservation and SEA concerns/incidents through appropriate channels. The role will work closely with other technical areas (especially Programmes, HR and MEAL) to help ensure our conservation practice in the communities we work in is sustainable. Capacity and Implementation:
Strengthen the capacity of all staff on protection and gender issues, to improve internal knowledge and expertise and to ensure the quality of activities with high protection standards and to strengthen the protection-sensitive approach in targeted communities. Work closely with the project team and beneficiaries to ensure that activities are implemented in a gender-sensitive manner. Ensuring equal participation of women and men in activities and ensuring that an appropriate complaints and feedback mechanism is in place to collect feedback from communities in a gender-sensitive manner and to ensure that the program incorporates this feedback during project implementation. Maintain, monitor and measure the implementation of the GBV project and contribute to the effective management of information on GBV survivors, adhering to national guidelines for case management of survivors and PSV.
Supports the implementation of SGBV prevention and response by managing program implementation and monitoring. Meet regularly with the program team to improve programming, ensuring that activities are implemented with a gender lens. Assist in monitoring protection needs and service delivery in the field in accordance with agreed guidelines, standards and indicators. Support vulnerable people identified during project implementation in accordance with MACI standards. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with local partner organizations, key government departments and any relevant domestic or international organizations. Represent MACI in monthly and quarterly working groups on DHBGJ and Organized Defense and share progress, challenges and appropriate follow-up plans. Ensure that the Do No Harm approach is applied to all activities carried out in the field and in host communities. Maintain detailed and organized records of project information and documentation. Submit weekly and monthly work plans and detailed activity reports to the Project Manager.
Education: HND / BSc / BA / B.TEC / LLB / or any equivalent qualification from a recognized institution
Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the humanitarian sector
Languages: English and Hausa. Knowledge of local dialect is desirable
