Plan International is an independent, non-governmental, humanitarian development organization that promotes children’s rights and equality for girls. We believe in the power and potential of every child. But this power is often stifled by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it is children who are most affected. Working with children, young people, our supporters and partners, we strive to create a more just world by addressing the root causes of the challenges faced by girls and all vulnerable children. We support children’s rights from birth to adulthood. We empower children to prepare for and cope with crises and disasters. We advocate for change in practices and policies at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge. We have been building strong partnerships for children for 80 years and are now active in over 70 countries.
Working in Zambia since 1996, Plan International Zambia’s development and humanitarian programmes focus primarily on inclusive quality education, skills and opportunities for youth employment and entrepreneurship, sexual and reproductive health and rights, early childhood development and gender-sensitive child protection. Child protection is fundamental to everything we do. Plan International Zambia has programme areas (PAs) in Central, Luapula and Eastern provinces, including Lusaka, where the country office is located.

The GESI Advisor represents Plan International on a “core team” of technical experts, who will be responsible for providing technical assistance to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) 30×30 programme. The “core team” will lead the implementation of all programme outputs. The GESI Advisor will be responsible for ensuring that all biodiversity conservation initiatives supported by the program are gender transformative.
