Job Description
The Sub-Saharan Africa EdTech Fund (SEF) Entrepreneurship Studio helps startups develop effective and scalable basic literacy and numeracy (BLN) solutions for underserved communities. The project focuses on creating measurable improvements in learning outcomes through customized support for startups.
We recruit an experienced M&E consultant to develop an M&E framework for the project and a customized framework for each startup, providing robust mechanisms to monitor, evaluate, and improve their educational impact. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting Edtech startups to measure their progress and capture progress on agreed metrics throughout the program. This role requires experience in modern impact assessment methodologies such as Theory of Change, Logical Framework Approach, Outcome Mapping, Most Important Change, Social Return on Investment, Impact Assessment of project management, randomized controlled trials, development evaluation, participatory evaluation, raw data, stakeholder engagement and mastery of contemporary impact assessment tools.
Main responsibilities
Partner with Edtech startups to develop and implement robust frameworks to measure their progress and impact on achieving learning outcomes. Leads the collection, analysis, and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data to assess program impact, individual startups, and granular Edtech product performance to achieve learning outcomes. Use modern impact assessment tools and technology to improve data collection and analysis processes. Prepare detailed reports and visually understandable presentations on evaluation findings, providing actionable insights and recommendations for improving programs and initial products.
Train and support startups and program staff in the use of impact measurement tools and methodologies. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment with impact objectives, pre-program indicators, and recurring indicators. Continually update evaluation frameworks and methodologies to incorporate the latest best practices and technological advances. Qualifications
Bachelor or Master in monitoring and evaluation, education, social sciences, statistics, or a similar field. At least 5 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, including developing frameworks for education-focused projects. Proven expertise in creating customized monitoring and evaluation frameworks tailored to project needs. Experience in baseline data collection, progress monitoring and impact evaluation in the education sector. Strong understanding of basic literacy and numeracy measures. Proficiency in monitoring and evaluation tools/software (e.g. SPSS, Stata, Excel, Power BI or similar). Proven ability to coach and train teams in monitoring and evaluation practices. Excellent communication skills to present data and information to various stakeholders. Knowledge of edtech solutions or entrepreneurial studio models is an advantage.
