The Armed Conflict Situation and Event Data Organization (ACLED) is an institution for the collection, analysis, and mapping of disaggregated crisis data. The ACLED team collects conflict information, conducts analysis to describe, explain, and test conflict scenarios, and makes open-access data and analysis available to the public. ACLED’s work is regularly used to inform journalism, academic research, and public discourse on conflict and to support practitioners and policymakers. ACLED is the highest-quality and most widely used source of real-time data and analysis on political violence and protests around the world.

ACLED is recruiting a researcher in Yemen to help collect, review and manage data on political violence and protests in Yemen. Researchers must be available 35 to 40 hours per week. This position is completely remote and can be performed from anywhere with reliable Internet service. This is an entry level contract position.
Data collection is performed by reviewing news, international organizations, NGOs, and security reports on a list of designated countries, and recording incidents of political violence in an Excel template. Researchers focus on coding events to provide holistic coverage of current political violence, ranging from protests to battles.
Data review and management includes ensuring the quality, consistency, and reliability of the data produced. The role provides team members with experience in performing detail-oriented tasks and producing and managing quantitative data.
Specific roles and responsibilities:
Selected candidates will undergo in-depth ACLED training. The training includes several exercises. Candidates’ exercises will be examined and only those who have reached the required level will be considered as scholars.
For selected applicants, the initial consultation period will last from February 2025 to the end of May 2025. After that, extension may be possible, depending on performance and availability of funding.
Skills and Abilities:
ACLED seeks candidates with the following skills and experience:
University degree in conflict studies, peacebuilding, international development, or related fields;
Proficiency in Excel (essential);
Fluency in English and Arabic (essential);
Experience conducting desk research;
Experience working to deadlines with limited supervision;
A high level of attention to detail and the ability to receive and integrate feedback;
A research focus or professional experience in conflict or peacebuilding research in Yemen specifically, or regional studies in general is a strong asset;
Familiarity with conflicts and actors in Yemen;
Access to a computer, reliable internet connection, email, and Microsoft Office suite.
