Job Responsibilities:
Review resources and familiarize yourself with ACLED guides, FAQs, and other materials;
Prepare for and participate in training on data cleaning, editing, and coding, as required by the position;
Review media reports and other available online sources for information on violent conflicts and political unrest in a given set of countries;
Monitor the emergence of new important actors, regimes, and political developments in a given set of countries and propose revisions to the project’s actor file and regime year database, as appropriate;
Manage and organize regional office files and documents;
Clean and organize data lists, e.g. by actors and regional locations;
Undertake general quality assurance tasks, as assigned by the Research Manager;
Review and incorporate feedback into ongoing coding efforts and data work;
Assist with data review and cleaning as needed;
Contribute to analytical content of project reports or other research as needed;
Perform source and coding work as needed;
Assist with regional office management;
Deputize for the research manager as needed.
ACLED is looking for candidates who meet the following requirements:
Good knowledge of ACLED methodology (essential);
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills (essential);
Management and feedback experience (preferred);
Good knowledge of Excel, including basic formulas (essential) and Tableau (preferred);
Very good knowledge of the English language;
Experience working to deadlines with limited supervision;
A high level of attention to detail (essential) and the ability to receive and integrate feedback;
Research orientation or professional experience in conflict research or peacebuilding (preferred).
