Workshop on Renewable Energy.

Published

on

Internews Earth Journalism Network (EJN) and the Just Transition Research Center at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur invite communicators to participate in a workshop on renewable energy at IIT Kanpur on February 20-22, 2025. Communicators based anywhere in India are eligible; those from Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh are particularly encouraged to apply.
India is committed to meeting 50% of its energy needs through non-fossil energy by installing 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030. This requires a clean and equitable energy transition for all stakeholders.
To raise public awareness of this ambitious goal, including progress towards a just transition and the challenges ahead, EJN and the Just Transition Research Centre (JTRC) at IIT Kanpur are jointly organizing a three-day workshop for communicators. The JTRC seeks to enable inclusive and evidence-based policymaking to facilitate the country’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
The workshops are designed to enhance the skills of communicators to explain relatively under-reported renewable energy issues in India. Selected communicators will have the opportunity to engage with researchers, subject matter experts, policymakers, and communities to deepen knowledge and understanding of the situation.
The workshop will be held at the IIT Kanpur campus from 20-22 February 2025.
Applications are open to India-based communicators working in print, online, radio, and television. Preference will be given to candidates from Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh.
The organizers will cover the travel, accommodation and food expenses of the selected participants.
The workshop will include a field trip to a suitable location. We particularly encourage women and early and mid-career professionals to apply.
