The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in some 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequality and exclusion, and build resilience so that countries can continue their progress. As the development agency of the United Nations, UNDP has a vital role to play in helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Istanbul International Centre for Private Sector Development (ICPSD) was established in Istanbul, Turkey, based on the Framework Partnership Agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and UNDP in March 2011. The Centre is one of UNDP’s five global thematic centres. . It helps the private sector and foundations become transformative partners in development through research, advocacy, facilitating public-private dialogue and partnership brokering. ICPSD leads UNDP’s global work in the private sector and foundations and supports UNDP offices, governments and the private sector around the world.
To foster sustainable and inclusive growth for the achievement of the 2030 Agenda, the ICPSD has developed targeted multi-stakeholder partnerships for skills development. ICPSD and the HP Foundation are collaborating to improve the development of entrepreneurial and 21st century skills globally and locally through the Entrepreneurial Skills Development Initiative for the SDGs (E-SDG). The global support initiative aims to advance the development of entrepreneurial skills through HP LIFE. HP LIFE is the HP Foundation’s free IT and business training program. It is accessible online, offline and in person. In this partnership, ICPSD conducts research and outreach, provides technical advice to various institutions, and implements capacity building activities. It feeds the HP LIFE network and supports the advancement of entrepreneurial ecosystems in different regions and countries. As part of E-SDG, the partners now aim to leverage HP’s existing expertise to help entrepreneurs around the world through mentoring and coaching. In addition, in collaboration with its partner, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), UNDP ICPSD has created the Skills for an Inclusive Future (S4IF) network, a multi-stakeholder advisory and partnership network. Through the S4IF network, ICPSD aims to unlock the potential of the private sector to equip disadvantaged populations with the skills they need for the future. UNDP IICPSD and EBRD focus on skills development for digital transformation, the future of work and the green economy. The S4IF network comprises four main service lines, including public-private partnership development, membership promotion, knowledge and advice, and financing initiatives.
The Research and Partnerships Officer contributes to the implementation of ICPSD’s skills development strategies by facilitating and advancing partnerships and resource mobilization, primarily through collaboration with the HP Foundation and the entrepreneurship component of the S4IF initiative.
