Activity/mission objective:
The implementation of the UNICEF Gender Action Plan (GAP) 2022-2025 requires effective knowledge management systems, information sharing and internal dissemination of gender documents within UNICEF to strengthen transformative gender programming and results across the organization.
PG Gender Equality is seeking a Knowledge Management Consultant to provide consulting services to facilitate effective knowledge sharing and mutual learning of GAP knowledge, products and experiences.
Scope of work:
Under the supervision of the Gender Planning and Programmes Specialist, and in consultation with other colleagues in PG Gender Equality, the Knowledge Management Consultant will be responsible for the following service areas:
Content development and presentation; AND
Capacity development, collaboration and learning.
Terms of Reference / Key Deliverables:
Content Development and Packaging: At least 30 updated communication and collaboration pages on the Gender Team page, reflecting progress in implementing the GAP 2022-2025 (31 March 2025)
Content Development and Packaging: 6-8 new SharePoint pages designed and developed based on data/content received from the Gender Equality PG and gender colleagues in regional offices/coordinators, including monitoring and evaluation (31 March 2025)
Content Development and Packaging: 4 new Gender Team libraries developed and content tagged and stored in 30-40 libraries (31 March 2025)
Capacity Development, Collaboration and Learning: Organize and deliver 2-4 webinars on key gender-related topics as requested by PG Gender Equality Team members, producing a brief summary of the results for each (31 March 2025) )
Capacity Development, Collaboration and Learning: Respond to 40-50 requests/requests for assistance from PG Gender Equality team members, including requests for integration into knowledge management (31 December 2025).
Qualifications
Education:
Advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in social sciences (sociology, demography, psychology, political science, social policy or economics), public health, public policy, public administration, international development or a field relevant to the sectoral work required by UNICEF (e.g. health, nutrition, WASH, education, child protection, social protection, inclusion, HIV/AIDS, etc.).
Professional experience:
Required knowledge/skills/competences*:
At least 5 (five) years of progressively responsible professional experience with a proven track record in knowledge management, internal communication and capacity building in these areas. Previous experience with UNICEF in the areas of children’s rights, women’s empowerment and gender rights is an advantage. Must demonstrate excellent writing skills with specific experience writing on gender issues and knowledge products
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an international, multicultural and interdisciplinary environment and to build harmonious and effective working relationships within and outside the organization. Experience in the working environment of an international agency, the UN or international institutions is desirable; previous experience with UNICEF is an advantage. Experience in developing country contexts and understanding of development challenges from a field perspective is desirable.
Excellent computer skills (MS Windows, MS Office applications, Sharepoint and Teamsite management). Knowledge of UNICEF/UN systems is an asset. Ability to communicate sensitively with diverse audiences. Knowledge of the Do No Harm principle and ethics. Ability to work under tight deadlines. Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential. Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.
