About the Program
This year-long cohort program offers mentoring and sponsored courses selected by the Center for Global Women’s Health and Gender Equity (CGWHGE) at Johns Hopkins University for practitioners, professionals and researchers engaged in gender-based violence (GBV) work. especially in low and middle income settings.
The part-time scholarship develops skills in evidence generation, synthesis/analysis and translation for gender equality and GBV. Fellows complete selected courses offered by the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH) and receive ongoing mentoring from CGWHGE faculty as part of a group experience designed for networking and professional development, including a meeting of group in person during the year. Ongoing activities are virtual, with in-person meetings chosen to allow for connection. Fellows will complete a mini-project focused on gender equity/GBV, such as secondary analysis of survey data or evidence synthesis, with mentoring and data analysis support from the CGWHGE faculty. Estimated duration of commitment: 10 hours per week on average, up to 20 hours per week during teaching weeks, plus travel to meetings.
Ideal candidates include, but are not limited to, those working in roles such as program monitoring and evaluation, community researchers, interns, and doctoral students working in low- and middle-income settings. Candidates must have experience in the field and must demonstrate a need for additional skills in research, programs, and/or evidence-based policies related to gender equality/gender-based violence to accelerate the impact of their work and advance their career goals.
Eligibility
Must be from a low- or middle-income country and currently live/work there.
Masters students are not eligible.
Must be currently working in the field of gender-based violence, or pursuing a doctoral, postdoctoral or junior position focused on gender-based violence.
Applicants must demonstrate experience in research, monitoring and evaluation and/or exposure to statistical software (STATA, R, etc.).
The scholarship will cover travel expenses, course registration, and faculty mentoring. No compensation will be provided for time spent by the participant. We encourage employed individuals to discuss the possibility of participation with their employer, including whether you can attend classes and/or meetings that take place during normal business hours.
