The Sexual Violence Research Initiative (SVRI) invites applications for innovative research that contributes to the prevention of and response to violence against women (VAW) and violence against children (VAC) and other forms of violence motivated by gender inequality in low- and middle-income countries. . – income countries.
The SVRI grant seeks high-priority, impactful research that exemplifies partnerships and equitable research processes that promote leadership by researchers based in low- and middle-income countries. We prioritize research that is informed by feminist principles and that recognizes and addresses power inequalities between donors and researchers, as well as in partnerships between high- and middle-income countries, and between researchers and practitioners.
Scope:
SVRI funding is for research – research is “systematic investigation, including research development, testing and evaluation, designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge” [1] that will advance the field of how to improve research, to strengthen responses and/or prevention of sexual violence against children and sexual violence against children in low- and middle-income countries.
We will like to see in your proposal:
They come from local organizations based in low- and middle-income countries; and/or multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral consortia, particularly those led by researchers or evidence creators residing in low- and middle-income countries.
Take an interdisciplinary approach to research and involve communities where appropriate, appropriate and ethical. Ensure a clear division of responsibilities for consortium proposals, ensuring equal partners and including a research expert on violence against women and children, sexual violence against children. Highlight efforts to build the capacity of early-career researchers in low- and middle-income countries.
Clearly and comprehensively describe strategies for effective delivery of results. Provide a logical and clear budget with a strong rationale. In your proposal, also make sure that:
Provide a clear explanation up front of how your study builds on current evidence and shows how you have explored and expanded upon existing research. Explain how your research fills a gap in the field, with a focus on advancing research and programming knowledge on violence against women and sexual violence in low- and middle-income countries.
Demonstrate how your work will strengthen policy and practice or improve methodology in the field. Therefore, research supported by the SVRI research grant should:
Advance our knowledge and understanding. Apply feminist and women-centered principles to research and partnerships. Promote equal participation and bring diverse voices from low- and middle-income countries (young researchers, practitioners, survivors, marginalized groups) to the field. Adhere to international safety and ethical standards
Strive to innovate new ideas, methodologies, and partnerships, building on existing evidence. Strive to be collaborative, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary. Where appropriate and relevant, seek to involve the community in which the research will be conducted. Challenge gender hierarchies that contribute to violence against women and children who are victims of violence, particularly child sexual violence, to promote gender equality. Inform policies, programmes and services and strengthen access to comprehensive care and support.
